Yang Dipertuan Muda
Yang Dipertuan Muda ('junior ruler') was the title of the viceroy or under-king of the Johor-Riau and later Riau-Lingga sultanates. From 1722 the office was held hereditarily by Bugis nobles, who controlled government and trade from the island of Penyengat while the Malay sultans reigned.
