Penyengat

Penyengat is a small island off Tanjung Pinang in the Riau Islands of Indonesia. It was the seat of the Bugis viceroys, the Yang Dipertuan Muda, of the Riau-Lingga Sultanate and in the 19th century a centre of Malay learning, where Raja Ali Haji wrote. Its royal mosque and tombs remain places of pilgrimage.
