Abdul Rahman Muazzam Shah

r. 1885–1911 · 19th century

Abdul Rahman Muazzam Shah was the last sultan of Riau-Lingga, reigning from 1885 to 1911. Growing friction with the Dutch colonial authorities, who resented his independence, led them to depose him in 1911. He withdrew to Singapore, and the Dutch formally abolished the sultanate and took direct control of the islands in 1913.
