Yang Yinglong

1551–1600 · 16th century

Yang Yinglong was the last hereditary chief of Bozhou, a native chiefdom in northern Guizhou ruled by the Yang family for some seven centuries. He rebelled against the Ming in 1589, a revolt counted among the Wanli Emperor's Three Great Campaigns. In 1600 a large Ming army under Li Hualong stormed his fortress of Hailongtun and he killed himself; Bozhou was then placed under direct administration.
