Yerevan

Also known as Erevan

Yerevan is the capital and largest city of Armenia, on the Hrazdan river within sight of Mount Ararat. Its history begins with the Urartian fortress of Erebuni, founded in 782 BCE. Known as Erivan, it was the seat of an Iranian province and later of the Erivan Khanate until Russia captured it in 1827. It became the capital of the first Armenian republic in 1918.
