Young Bukharans

c. 1909–1920 · 20th century · Also known as Young Bukharan

The Young Bukharans were a reformist movement in the Emirate of Bukhara, influenced by the Jadid movement and the Young Turks, who sought modern education and constitutional limits on the emir. Persecuted by Emir Alim Khan, many allied with the Bolsheviks, and in 1920 they joined the Red Army's capture of Bukhara. Their leader Fayzulla Khodzhayev headed the Bukharan People's Soviet Republic.
