Yusuf II

r. 1214–1224 · 13th century

Yusuf II was an Almohad caliph who reigned from 1214 to 1224, succeeding his father Muhammad al-Nasir after the catastrophic defeat at Las Navas de Tolosa in 1212. He came to the throne young and ruled weakly. The succession crisis following his death produced multiple rival caliphs and defections to Christian kingdoms, accelerating the empire's disintegration.
