Zarubintsy culture

c. 3rd century BCE–1st century CE · 3rd century BCE · Also known as Zarubinets culture

The Zarubintsy culture was an Iron Age archaeological culture of the middle and upper Dnieper basin, in modern Ukraine and Belarus, from about the 3rd century BCE to the 1st century CE. It is known from unfortified settlements and cremation cemeteries. Scholars have linked it variously to the Bastarnae and to the ancestors of the early Slavs.
