Zerafshan
The Zerafshan is a river of Central Asia that flows west from the mountains of Tajikistan through Uzbekistan, watering the oases of Samarkand and Bukhara. Its valley was one of the richest agricultural and commercial regions of Transoxiana. Accounts of the Chagatai Empire name the commercial centres along the Zerafshan and Amu Darya among the most productive urban centres of the khanate's heartland.
