Zumaque I
Zumaque I was the oil well at Mene Grande, on the eastern side of Lake Maracaibo, that in 1914 became the first commercially productive well in Venezuela. Drilled by the Caribbean Petroleum Company, an affiliate of Royal Dutch Shell, it marked the start of large-scale oil production in the country and is regarded as the birthplace of the Venezuelan oil industry.
