Zürich Oberland

Also known as Zurich Oberland

The Zürich Oberland is the hilly eastern part of the canton of Zürich, around the towns of Wetzikon, Hinwil and Bauma. From the seventeenth century its households spun and wove cotton and silk for city merchants, and in the nineteenth century water-powered factories spread along its streams. In 1832 hand-weavers burned a mechanised mill in the Usterbrand.
