Alipura State

1757 CE – 1950 CE (approx.) · capital Alipura

A small Parihar Rajput state of the Bundelkhand Agency in central India.

Origins

Alipura became a separate chiefship in the mid-18th century under a Parihar Rajput family, during the break-up of Bundela power in Bundelkhand. It was confirmed by a British sanad in the early 19th century.

Rule and society

Its ruler governed a small rural territory as a non-salute state. Little else is recorded about its internal history.

Decline and legacy

After independence Alipura was merged with the other Bundelkhand states into Vindhya Pradesh, and its lands were absorbed into the Indian administration by 1950; the town is in Chhatarpur district of Madhya Pradesh.

Few sources survive for this state; details are uncertain.
