Abu al-Abbas Ahmad II

r. 1370–1394 · 14th century

Abu al-Abbas Ahmad II was a Hafsid sultan who ruled from Tunis from 1370 to 1394. Already ruler of Constantine and Bejaia, he took Tunis in 1370 and spent his reign reuniting the dynasty's lands, subduing Arab tribes and rebellious towns in the south. He withstood a French and Genoese crusade against Mahdia in 1390 and restored Hafsid power, a revival continued by his son Abu Faris.
