Adovacrius

fl. 460s · 5th century · Also known as Odovacrius

Adovacrius was a Saxon leader who fought in north-western Gaul in the 460s. According to Gregory of Tours he took hostages from Angers and other places on the lower Loire before the Frankish king Childeric I and Roman forces took the city and defeated the Saxons. Some historians have identified him with Odoacer, later king of Italy, but this remains debated.
