Agnello Participazio

d. 827 · 9th century · Also known as Agnello Particiaco

Agnello Participazio was Doge of Venice from 811 to 827. Elected after the Frankish attack on the lagoon by Pepin of Italy, he moved the seat of government from Malamocco to the more defensible Rialto islands, the core of the later city of Venice. He associated his sons with him in office, and the Participazio family supplied several doges in the ninth century.
