Aigai
Aigai, or Aegae, was the first capital and royal burial place of the Kingdom of Macedon, at modern Vergina in northern Greece. Excavations by Manolis Andronikos in 1977 uncovered royal tombs, one widely attributed to Philip II, who was assassinated in the city's theatre in 336 BCE. The palace and tombs form a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
