Argead dynasty

c. 7th century–310 BCE · 7th century BCE · Also known as Argeads, Temenids

The Argead dynasty ruled the Kingdom of Macedon from around the 7th century BCE until about 310 BCE. Its kings claimed descent from Temenos of Argos and through him from Heracles, a claim that allowed Alexander I to compete at the Olympic Games. The line included Philip II and Alexander the Great and ended with the murder of Alexander IV.
