Aizpute

Also known as Hasenpoth

Aizpute, in German Hasenpoth, is a small town in the Kurzeme region of western Latvia. In the Middle Ages it held the cathedral of the Bishopric of Courland, and after 1559 it lay in the bishop's former lands, later the District of Pilten. It then passed to the Duchy of Courland and with it to the Russian Empire in 1795.
