Akita Prefecture

Akita Prefecture is a prefecture in the Tohoku region of northern Honshu, Japan, on the Sea of Japan, with its capital at Akita. It was formed in 1871 from the Kubota domain and neighbouring lands after the abolition of the han system, and covers most of the former province of Ugo, the northern part of Dewa. It is known for rice, Akita cedar and its former silver and copper mines.
