Ali Adil Shah II
Ali Adil Shah II ruled the Bijapur Sultanate from 1656 to 1672. His reign opened with a Mughal invasion under Aurangzeb and saw the rise of Shivaji, who killed the Bijapuri general Afzal Khan in 1659 and carved a Maratha state out of Bijapur's western lands. Bijapur repulsed a Mughal army under Jai Singh in 1665–1666, and the court poet Nusrati wrote major works of Dakhni literature under his patronage.
