Amatitlán
Amatitlán is a town in the department of Guatemala on the shore of Lake Amatitlán, south of Guatemala City. In the nineteenth century its surroundings, together with those of Antigua, were the main centre of cochineal production, the red dye that was Guatemala's chief export until synthetic dyes ruined the trade from the 1860s.
