Anna of Kiev

c. 1030–after 1075 · 11th century · Also known as Anne of Kiev

Anna of Kiev was a daughter of Yaroslav the Wise who became queen of France as the wife of Henry I, whom she married in 1051. She was the mother of Philip I and acted with him in government during his minority after Henry's death in 1060. Her later marriage to Count Ralph of Valois caused a scandal. Her marriage is a sign of the standing of the Rurikid dynasty in eleventh-century Europe.
