1306–1365 · 14th century · Also known as Anna Palaiologina

Anna of Savoy was a Byzantine empress, wife of Andronikos III Palaiologos. After her husband's death in 1341 she acted as regent for their young son John V and led the regency government against John Kantakouzenos in the civil war of 1341–1347, seeking help from Serbs, Bulgarians, Turks and local rulers. Defeated, she accepted Kantakouzenos as co-emperor and later governed Thessalonica.
