Apries

r. 589–570 BCE · 6th century BCE · Also known as Wahibre

Apries was a pharaoh of the 26th Dynasty of Egypt, reigning from 589 to 570 BCE. He intervened in the Levant against Babylon and sent an army against the Greek colony of Cyrene, whose defeat at Irasa around 570 BCE provoked a mutiny. The general Amasis was proclaimed king in his place, and Apries was later killed.
