Pindar

c. 518 – c. 438 BCE · 5th century BCE · Also known as Pindar of Thebes

Pindar was a Greek lyric poet from Thebes, the most admired composer of choral odes in antiquity. His victory odes for winners at the Olympic, Pythian, Isthmian and Nemean games, written for rulers and aristocrats across the Greek world from Sicily to Cyrene and Rhodes, survive in four books. They are known for their complex style and their use of myth.
