Battle of Irasa

c. 570 BCE · 6th century BCE

The Battle of Irasa was fought around 570 BCE in Cyrenaica, in present-day Libya, where the Greeks of Cyrene under Battus II defeated an Egyptian army sent by the pharaoh Apries to help the local Libyans. Herodotus records the battle, whose outcome provoked a mutiny in Egypt that brought Amasis to the throne.
