Ariarathid dynasty
The Ariarathid dynasty ruled Cappadocia in central Anatolia from the late 4th century BCE until about 96 BCE. Of Persian origin, its kings, most of them named Ariarathes, mixed Iranian traditions with Greek culture and allied with Rome from the 2nd century BCE. When the line died out amid interference by Mithridates VI of Pontus, Rome approved Ariobarzanes I as king.
