Ark of the Covenant

The Ark of the Covenant is, in the Hebrew Bible, a gilded wooden chest holding the tablets of the Law given to Moses. Carried before the Israelites, it was captured by the Philistines and placed in the temple of Dagon at Ashdod before being returned, and David brought it to Jerusalem, where Solomon housed it in the Temple. Its fate after the Babylonian conquest is unknown.
