Dagan

Also known as Dagon

Dagon was a god worshipped in ancient Syria and Mesopotamia, attested from the 3rd millennium BCE at Ebla and Mari and associated with grain and fertility. The Bible presents him as the chief god of the Philistines, with temples at Ashdod and Gaza. The idea that he was a fish god arose from a later false etymology.
