Armenian Oblast

1828–1840 · 19th century

The Armenian Oblast was a province of the Russian Empire formed in 1828 from the Erivan and Nakhichevan khanates ceded by Qajar Iran in the Treaty of Turkmenchay. Many Armenians from Iran resettled there. It was abolished in 1840 and its lands were later reorganised as the Erivan Governorate.
