Aucilla River
The Aucilla River flows about 140 kilometres from southern Georgia across northern Florida to the Gulf of Mexico. It marked the eastern edge of the Apalachee province in the 16th and 17th centuries. Underwater sites in its bed, such as Page-Ladson, have yielded some of the oldest evidence of people in North America, including mastodon remains with butchery marks.
