Avantipur
Avantipur is a town on the Jhelum river in the Kashmir valley, south-east of Srinagar, founded by King Avantivarman of the Utpala dynasty, who reigned from 855 to 883. It preserves the ruins of two great stone temples he built, the Avantiswami temple dedicated to Vishnu and the Avantishvara temple dedicated to Shiva, among the finest examples of early medieval Kashmiri architecture.
