Aztlan
Aztlan is the legendary homeland from which the Mexica (Aztecs) and other Nahua peoples were said to have migrated to central Mexico. Their accounts describe it as an island in a lake somewhere to the north, which the Mexica left in the 12th century, wandering for generations before founding Tenochtitlan. Its location, if it existed, is unknown, and it has become a symbol of origin in Mexican and Chicano culture.
