Badagry

Badagry is a coastal town in Lagos State, Nigeria, on a lagoon near the border with Benin. From the eighteenth century it was a major port of the Atlantic slave trade, through which captives from the Oyo Empire and its neighbours were shipped. In 1842 Methodist missionaries began work there, among the first Christian missions in what became Nigeria.
