Badi IV

r. 1724–1762 · 18th century · Also known as Badi IV Abu Shulukh

Badi IV, called Abu Shulukh, was the last Funj sultan of Sennar to hold real power, reigning from 1724 to 1762. His forces defeated an Ethiopian invasion under Iyasu II in 1744, but his reliance on new favourites alienated the nobility. In 1762 he was deposed by his general Muhammad Abu Likaylik, after which the Hamaj regents ruled in the sultans' name.
