Basilan

Basilan is an island in the southern Philippines, lying between the Zamboanga Peninsula of Mindanao and the Sulu archipelago. Its coastal communities were long linked by tributary ties to the Sulu Sultanate, and Spain built a fort at Isabela on its northern coast in the nineteenth century. Today it forms a province of the Philippines.
