Battle of Aspern-Essling
The Battle of Aspern-Essling was fought on 21–22 May 1809 on the north bank of the Danube near Vienna, where Archduke Charles of Austria repulsed Napoleon's attempt to cross the river. It was the first major defeat of Napoleon in person in more than a decade, though he recrossed the Danube and won the Battle of Wagram six weeks later.
