Battle of Bomboná

1822 · 19th century · Part of the Spanish American wars of independence

The Battle of Bomboná was fought on 7 April 1822 near Pasto in southern New Granada between Simón Bolívar's army and royalist forces under Colonel Basilio García. Bolívar's troops held the field after costly frontal attacks, and the royalists withdrew. Together with Sucre's victory at Pichincha in May, the campaign secured Quito and Pasto for Gran Colombia.
