Battle of Guningtou

1949 · 20th century · Also known as Battle of Kuningtou · Part of the Chinese Civil War

The Battle of Guningtou was fought on Kinmen island, off the Fujian coast, from 25 to 27 October 1949. Nationalist forces destroyed a Communist landing force of about 9,000 men, most of whom were killed or captured. The victory halted the Communist advance across the Taiwan Strait and helped the Republic of China keep Kinmen and Taiwan.
