Battle of Hohenlinden

1800 · 19th century · Part of the War of the Second Coalition

The Battle of Hohenlinden was fought on 3 December 1800 in Bavaria, east of Munich, between a French army under Jean Moreau and an Austrian and Bavarian army under Archduke John. Moreau's divisions caught the Austrians strung out in the forest and routed them, taking many prisoners. Coming after Marengo, the defeat forced Austria to make peace by the Treaty of Lunéville in 1801, ending the War of the Second Coalition.
