Battle of Montjuïc (1641)

1641 · 17th century · Part of the Reapers' War

The Battle of Montjuïc was fought on 26 January 1641 on the hill of Montjuïc above Barcelona. Catalan militia and French troops repulsed the royal army of Philip IV under the Marquis of Los Vélez, which had advanced on the city. The victory saved Barcelona and the Catalan revolt, which had just placed Catalonia under Louis XIII of France.
