Battle of Nihawand

642 CE · 7th century · Also known as Victory of Victories · Part of the Muslim conquest of Persia

The Battle of Nihawand was fought in 642 CE in western Iran between the armies of the Rashidun Caliphate and the forces of the Sasanian Empire. Called the "Victory of Victories" in Islamic tradition, it effectively destroyed the remaining organised Sasanian military capacity. The battle opened the Iranian plateau to the Arab conquest.
