Battle of Palkhed

1728 · 18th century

The Battle of Palkhed was fought in February 1728 near Aurangabad between the Maratha Peshwa Baji Rao I and Nizam-ul-Mulk of Hyderabad. By rapid cavalry manoeuvres Baji Rao cut off the Nizam's army from its supplies and forced him to come to terms. The Nizam had to recognise Maratha rights to collect chauth and sardeshmukhi in the Deccan.
