Battle of the Kondurcha River

1391 · 14th century · Part of the Tokhtamysh–Timur war

The Battle of the Kondurcha River was fought on 18 June 1391 near the Kondurcha, a tributary of the Volga basin east of modern Samara. Timur, after a long march across the steppe, defeated the army of Tokhtamysh, khan of the Golden Horde and his former protégé. It was the first of two great defeats, followed by the Battle of the Terek River in 1395, that ruined the Horde.
