Tokhtamysh

d. 1406 · 14th century

Tokhtamysh (died 1406) was a Mongol khan descended from Jochi who, with the support of Timur, became khan of the White Horde and by 1380 reunited it with the Golden Horde. He sacked Moscow in 1382, restoring Mongol overlordship over the Russian principalities, but then turned against Timur, who defeated him in 1391 and on the Terek in 1395. He was killed in Siberia in 1406.
