Tokhtamysh–Timur war

1386–1395 · 14th century

The Tokhtamysh–Timur war was fought from 1386 to 1395 between Tokhtamysh, khan of the Golden Horde, and his former patron Timur. Tokhtamysh raided Timur's lands in Azerbaijan and Transoxiana, but Timur defeated him at the Kondurcha River (1391) and the Terek (1395) and then sacked the Horde's cities, including Sarai, a blow from which the Golden Horde never fully recovered.
