Ugra River
The Ugra is a river of western Russia, about 400 kilometres long, flowing through the Smolensk and Kaluga regions into the Oka. In the fifteenth century it marked part of the border between Muscovy and Lithuania. In 1480 the armies of Ivan III and Khan Ahmed of the Great Horde faced each other across it in the Great Stand, which ended Moscow's tribute to the Horde.
