Bay Islands

Also known as Islas de la Bahía

The Bay Islands are a group of islands off the Caribbean coast of Honduras, the largest being Roatán, Utila and Guanaja, forming the department of Islas de la Bahía. Settled largely by English-speaking migrants from the Cayman Islands in the nineteenth century, alongside an older Garífuna community, they were a British colony from 1852 and were returned to Honduras in 1861 under the Wyke–Cruz Treaty.
