Wyke–Cruz Treaty

1859 · 19th century

The Wyke–Cruz Treaty was signed in November 1859 by Britain, represented by Charles Lennox Wyke, and Honduras, represented by Francisco Cruz. Britain recognised the Bay Islands as Honduran territory and handed them over in 1860, in line with its commitments under the Clayton–Bulwer Treaty, while Honduras guaranteed the islanders' property and religious freedom. It also recognised Honduran sovereignty over its part of the Mosquito Coast.
