Bayeux
Bayeux is a town in the Calvados department of Normandy, France, near the English Channel coast. As Augustodurum it was the Roman chief town of the Gallic Baiocasses, whose name it later took, and it became a bishop's seat. The Normans gained the area in 924, and the town is famous for the Bayeux Tapestry, kept there, and as the first French town liberated after the Normandy landings in 1944.
